Multi-Fold Access Ramps
Multi-fold access ramps are categorized as portable access ramps. As such, multi-fold access ramps are typically lightweight, easy to operate and also quite easy to set up. Multi-fold access ramps are full width access ramps that are designed to be folded for storage purposes, either in a vehicle or at home or for transportation purposes, from one location to another or from the vehicle to a destination and vice versa. The multi-fold access ramp’s design allows it to be easily unfolded when required to negotiate access vehicles, curbs or steps. Due to the fact that multi-fold access ramps are customarily full width platforms, they can be used for both conventional or motorized wheelchairs as well as four-wheeled mobility scooters. Basically, multi-fold access ramps, also referred to as folding access ramps are access ramps that are able to unfold and locked into position during usage. Setting up multi-fold access ramps should be fast and thus storage should be an easy task as well.
However, when selecting a multi-fold access ramp, the person handling the access ramp should give careful consideration to certain factors. First and foremost, the multi-fold access ramp must be easy to handle. The actual operation of the access ramp must be easy especially when the access ramp is a portable one that is to be used in a variety of locations, which calls for a certain degree of versatility and functionality. The multi-fold access ramp must also be relatively portable as with certain multi-fold access ramps, portability may not be one of its strongest features. This is because most multi-fold access ramps are designed to hold a considerable amount of weight, whereby durability in construction takes precedence over portability. Thus some multi-fold access ramps can be quite heavy and not as easy to rearrange after being put into the required position. The multi-fold access ramp should be able to fold nicely.
Once folded, the size of the multi-fold access ramp should not take up too much space as some multi-fold access ramps are easily the size of a large suitcase when folded. The construction of multi-fold access ramps should at least be sturdy if not of a high-quality construction as multi-fold access ramps should be able to withstand great weight and overall punishing regime associated with regular use. A good quality multi-fold access ramp should have solid welding and strong hinges that will not easily shatter or weaken over time and use. Even so, multi-fold access ramps should also be inspected when in a folded position as the hinges on cheaply constructed ones are given to strain upon folding.
Size is also an important factor to consider when contemplating multi-fold access ramps as the access ramp has to be not only wide enough to accommodate the wheelchair or mobility scooter but also long enough to allow a slow incline when in use.
Multi-fold access ramps may be slightly bulkier than roll-up access ramps and also not as versatile or flexible but they could be more cost-effective in the long run especially when taking into consideration factors such as ease of use, portability, quality and size. Multi-fold access ramps’ costs vary from USD $250.00 to USD $1,000.00, depending on size and length.
