Telescoping Access Ramps
Telescoping access ramps are multipurpose solutions for wide-ranging situations as they have the ability to extend thereby allowing their usage at a variety of height levels. Telescoping access ramps generally consists of two fitted platform segments or channel that slide against each other. They are then adjusted to the desired lengths in order to accommodate varying types and sizes of inclines. The design is such that each subsequent telescoping channel is slightly narrower than the channel before so as to ensure that each channel fits precisely into the one beneath it. Telescoping access ramps are designed for portability and convenience of mobility and are thus lightweight in nature. They are usually made of anodized aluminum making it durable yet easy to port around and set up.
Costs may vary as decent telescoping access ramps that are not only lightweight and portable but also able to bear a decent amount of weight as well i.e. at least 400 pounds. Telescoping access ramps are almost always lined with rubber or some form of non-skid material for better traction as well as to ensure the surface is non-slip. A decent telescoping access ramp may well cost over USD $100.00 regardless of its simplicity.
Basically there are two types of telescoping access ramps, a single broad ramp and the twin-channel ramp. Broad telescoping access ramps are able to accommodate a wheelchair or scooter or powerchair within their width. On the other hand, twin-channel telescoping access ramps consist of a pair of ramps which are independent of each other, where each ramp accommodates one side of a wheel on a wheelchair. As such, only two wheeled wheelchairs are suitable for twin-channel telescoping access ramps.
It is imperative that the material used for telescoping access ramps are lightweight enough to ensure that construction is also lightweight as most telescoping access ramps are carried around and set in position by a single person. Once extended, the mounting positions must be balanced and secure enough to accommodate the weight of a person and their wheelchair. Telescoping access ramps will commonly have locators that helps secure the top of the ramp to a vehicle or a step. It is better to have telescoping access ramps that are lined with a non-slip material for better traction and grip as well as locking mechanisms that ensure the channels are in a locked state during use.
Telescoping access ramps also come with vertical edging which helps prevent vehicles from running off the track. In addition to a sturdy construction and all these other features, telescoping access ramps are also usually equipped with a carrying case or bag to facilitate ease of portability.
Telescoping access ramps have many benefits. Comparatively speaking, they are slightly more affordable than other types of access ramps. Telescoping access ramps slide out to meet the length required giving them the flexibility to handle a great many circumstances. This feature also allows them to adapt to any situation and inclination, from steps to curbs. Although telescoping access ramps are lightweight, they are also durable which is especially useful when they are frequently transported from one place to another. There are also many sizes, widths and lengths to choose from to accommodate individual requirements and needs. All in all, telescoping access ramp solutions provide the best combination of affordability as well as durability.
