Solid Access Ramps
Solid access ramps are somewhat similar in principle with track access ramps with the major difference being the appearance and therefore function. Unlike track access ramps, solid access ramps are like its name suggests, of a solid design and construction. Track access ramps typically consist of two separate channels or tracks while solid access ramps, while it works the same way in principle consists of only one track or one piece. Although in some cases, solid access ramps appear to have two separate segments but these segments are usually welded together so the solid access ramp looks like a single platform.
Solid access ramps are a type of portable access ramp that can be converted into semi-permanent access ramps as well. Solid access ramps are usually made out of anodized aluminum, which being lightweight makes it ideal not only for portability but also for durability. Aluminum is also weather resistant, being able to keep its form under extreme temperatures and will not rust. The surface of solid access ramps usually provides good traction as more often than not they are lined with rubber or a rubber-like material to ensure that there is no accidental slipping while in use.
Solid access ramps also come with side rails to prevent any accidental wheel slippage. Because solid access ramps are made out of durable and lightweight material, it is ideal for portable use in and around the house or office building as well as on curbsides. Solid access ramps can also be stored in vehicles due to its relatively reduced weight load but this is dependent on the size as the wider or larger the sold access ramp, the more encumbered one might find it. The solid access ramp is designed as a platform which makes it even more stable and secure than track access ramps. There are also no hinges in a sold access ramp so there is no risk of it accidentally coming apart should it be exposed to more rigorous activities.
For the reason that solid access ramps are platform-like in design, they are appropriate for all types of wheelchairs, powerchairs and mobility scooters with various wheel configurations. This makes the solid access ramp a very versatile piece of access ramp in comparison to other access ramps in its price range. However, one should always keep in mind that solid access ramps may not always be able to take on too much weight as the maximum load capacity is approximately 500-600 pounds.
Even though solid access ramps are portable access ramps, they can also used on a semi-permanent basis by drilling holes into the ground where the solid access ramp is to be used and then screwed into place. Removal is also easy as all one has to do is to unscrew it from position then the solid access ramp is portable once more. Solid access ramps are ideal for negotiating a short distance where the incline is not too steep. When selecting a solid access ramp, one should always remember, the wider it is the safer. Solid access ramps’ prices range from at least USD $200.00 to about USD $350.00 for a decent-sized one.
