Track Access Ramps
Track access ramps are a type of portable access ramps that consist of two separate channels or tracks that are long and narrow. Not unlike telescoping access ramps, track access ramps are similar to telescoping access ramps but are not designed to extend as each track is of a fixed length and width so they may be considered the basis for telescoping access ramp design.
Track access ramps are typically constructed of lightweight material such as anodized aluminum that is not too heavy as since it is a portable access ramp, portability and lightness is a key contributing factor. Aluminum is also durable enough and should be able to withstand any extremities in weather conditions as well. Track ramps are one of the lightest of access ramps that are available in the market due to their simplicity of design i.e. two single channels or tracks that neither extend nor unfold. The tracks or paths on track access ramps, like other access ramps, are almost always lined with rubber (or rubber-like material) to prevent the wheels of wheelchairs or mobility scooters from slipping while in use.
Track access ramps are also outfitted with side rails to ensure that wheelchairs or mobility scooters do not inadvertently slip off the path during transit. As such, track access ramps can take up to at least 500 pounds of weight at a given time.
Because the design for track access ramps are one of the simplest and most basic available for access ramps, track access ramps also offer a certain degree of versatility. One need not use both tracks at a given time as one track can be enough to transport a bicycle for example. In fact, track access ramps could have multiple uses other than the transportation of wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
However, although the track access ramp may offer versatility of usage due to its basic design, it is also due to this basic design that the track access ramp has some limitations. It is advisable that track access ramps only be used for the transportation of manual wheelchairs and only certain powerchairs or mobility scooters. Since track access ramps consist of two long and narrow tracks of a fixed length and width, mobility scooters or powerchairs with three or six wheels will not be able to utilize track access ramps. For two-wheeled wheelchairs, powerchairs or mobility scooters, this would not be a problem and could very well prove to be the cheapest option available for transportation.
Compared to other access ramps, track access ramps are one of the cheapest options for access ramps as the cheapest track access ramps can be obtained for a mere USD $69.90. However, do bear in mind that price is usually a good indicator for overall sturdiness, durability and quality. Given how cheap track access ramps are, track access ramps are very compact, very lightweight and they also work better with side doors or narrow areas or openings. Because of an absence of hinges, in some cases track access ramps can prove to be more stable that folding access ramps.
